Technical Support Engineer

Our client is a well-established IT support company based in Salisbury, Wiltshire, dedicated to providing high-quality, responsive IT services to businesses within a 50-mile radius. Their clients range from small enterprises to mid-sized businesses across various industries.

Role Overview

We are looking for a proactive and technically skilled Technical Support Engineer to join their growing team. The ideal candidate will have solid experience supporting small to medium business IT infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on Sophos firewall configuration and troubleshooting.

You will be responsible for providing both remote and on-site technical support to a variety of clients, diagnosing and resolving issues across hardware, software, networking, and security platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide remote and on-site IT support to clients within the service radius

  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Sophos firewalls and other network security appliances

  • Support and maintain client infrastructure including Windows servers, workstations, and networking equipment

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely manner

  • Perform routine maintenance and monitoring of client systems

  • Participate in client projects such as system upgrades, migrations, and installations

  • Document support activities and solutions in a ticketing system

  • Liaise with vendors and third-party providers as required

  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain long-term client relationships

Requirements

  • Proven experience with Sophos firewalls (configuration, deployment, and ongoing support)

  • 3+ years experience in a technical support or IT field service role

  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, and Microsoft networking technologies

  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and general networking

  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills

  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle

  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple clients

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Sophos certifications (e.g., Sophos XG Firewall Certified Engineer)

  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure or Google Workspace

  • Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions

  • Familiarity with remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools
