Finance Director and Head of Operations
We are delighted to be working very closely with Plantlife International on their recruitment of a Finance Director.
Established in 1989, Plantlife International is the only UK charity dedicated to conserving wild flowers, plants and fungi in their natural habitats and helping people to enjoy and learn about them.
Here at Plantlife, we know that alongside excellent conservation, if we are to succeed in our mission to save wild plant species and endangered habitats we need robust and resilient finances along with excellent operational systems and processes. We are looking for a Finance Director to join the Senior Management Team with a remit to make sure that we get the very best from our operations as well manage our finances; strategically and operationally. This will require ongoing system and process development as well as a strong focus on delivery.
As an experienced charity accountant you will be joining a small leadership team of four (including you) and be able to operate as a competent leader, mentor and advocate across our activities. Your portfolio will include oversight and delivery of finance, HR (outsourced contract), IT, legal contracts and office facilities. You will be required to produce statutory accounts, as well as complying with all the relevant reporting regulations. Just as importantly, you’ll be skilled at providing management information and advising everybody – project teams, your senior colleagues and our board of trustees – on getting best value for money, managing risks and ensuring Plantlife is financially and operationally sustainable. We’ll also look to you to help write and manage robust and proportionate financial procedures and policies – from investment and banking to individual expenses.
A love of wild plants is optional – though you’ll be surrounded by people who will want to share their passion! You’ll understand the charity sector and be able to work to its regulatory, governance and cultural requirements. Most of all, you’ll need the drive and ambition to help us succeed at a time critical for nature. You’ll embrace the values of a conservation organization aiming to operate at the top of its game and deliver truly positive impact in everything we do.
This is a full time position, based predominantly in the Salisbury office HQ. We can be flexible about precise hours and work normal office hours (9-5, Monday to Friday), although this role may occasionally require some weekend and evening working. You will be expected to travel periodically for example to attend Trustee meetings, and to visit other Plantlife offices/sites in the UK if required. We also encourage familiarisation with our reserves and project sites and as a member of the senior team would encourage you to visit them. We offer flexible working to all staff and can consider some home working, although the nature of this role means we would expect the post holder to be in the office most of the time.
The salary is £50-52k per annum. In addition, we make contributions to a personal pension scheme, have a generous annual leave allowance starting at 25 days and increasing to 29 over time, and a supportive absence/sick leave policy.
